The exhibit
NYT burst onto the scene in December 2003 and quickly became a magnet for one of London’s funkiest crowds. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle between Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus, it traded on a simple idea: New York clubbing energy, transplanted to the West End.
The archived page reads like a guestbook of the era — Kate Moss, Liv Tyler, Method Man, Stella McCartney and Enrique Iglesias all passed through its doors. Time Out named it London’s best hip hop night, Mark Ronson spun here, resident DJ Trystan held the booth, guest DJ Steve Sadler worked the crowd, and guests from Kiss 100 FM kept the sound honest.
An intimate capacity of around 400, a 4am licence and a reputation for after-show parties made NYT the club other DJs treated as their own hang-out — complete with breakdancers, rollerskate dancers and stage dancers working the floor.
