The exhibit
An exclusive members’ club with a history as rich as Mayfair itself, offering what its page called sophisticated clubbing at the highest level — for a clientele who would appear equally at home in St Tropez or Monte Carlo.
The Mayfair Club hosted some of the hottest parties of its era: nights for Julien McDonald, Kelly Brook, MTV Europe and the BBC, with P. Diddy, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z among the names gracing the rooms.
Five areas made up the club: the downstairs Pompei-themed Living Room Bar for around 200 guests, the upstairs Satellite Bar for quieter drinks with waitress service, the Dome Area with its starry night ceiling, and the Red and Blue VIP rooms, each holding sixty for smaller, discreet parties.
When the archive was frozen, the page carried one final banner: THE MAYFAIR CLUB IS NOW CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. The photographs below are what remain of the party.
“A clientele who appear just at home in St Tropez or Monte Carlo.”
